How & Why, I Became a Virtual Assistant…

When I was in high school, I was so confused as to what awaited me outside of the public school system.

I graduated with an Honors and a Scholar diploma but had absolutely no ambition towards anything more than that. I was terrified to apply to any big colleges and opted for a local school to stay close to my family. All I knew at this point in time was that I loved anything that allowed me to be creative and that I really loved helping people.

I really wanted to pursue a career in Human Services and have the opportunity to give kids hope when they didn’t have any left.

When I went to sign up for classes my guidance counselor told me that I needed to find a better field because if not I would be relying on others to support me for the rest of my life…

My face when I was deterred from the one career path that made seNSE TO ME?!

Uhhhh what?!

SOOOOO what did I do?

I went to school for business and loathed every second of it.

I wasn’t in the fun branches of business (like marketing); I was in business administration…No, thank you. That would’ve landed me a job as a manager somewhere that would ultimately dull my creative energy.

While I was in college, I was working at a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant and waiting tables. I loved having conversations with people from all over the world, but I knew something was missing. I mean, I wasn’t going to become successful by working at a restaurant and I wasn’t happy in my college classes. Nonetheless, I pushed through and still found ways to fulfill my creative needs… I started drawing, painting, and I discovered graphic design!

I was eventually asked for help when it came to designing a website for a local politician. I was happy to assist and realized that this right here is something that I’m truly passionate about!

Yay! I did it! I found something to reignite that spark. Designing websites is challenging, exciting, and takes soooooo much creativity!

I had no idea where to go from there and stayed at the restaurant (where I helped design the dessert menu with my newfound skills) until I stumbled upon a course that showed me exactly what a Virtual Assistant really is... I was so excited!

There’s a name for what I want to do with my life?!

Woohoo!

And guess what….?

I did it!

I went and applied for my L.L.C. I can’t even begin to tell you how much bragging and dancing and excitement there was when I was finally established as a business owner!

In the beginning, it wasn’t easy… I was working 7 days a week between trying to find clients, creating content, marketing for myself, and still waiting tables.

Eventually, I posted a picture of my home office and ended up gaining a follower on Instagram… I didn’t think anything of it but turns out, that person would soon become my very first client and I will never forget her or how much she has done to help me become successful.

I went completely full-time as a Virtual Assistant only a few months ago and it has been terrifying, but let me tell you…

If I didn’t take the leap then, I probably never would have, and I would still be working 10 am-10 pm waiting tables and I never would have had the opportunity to meet and connect with so many amazing entrepreneurs.
